9:30 - 10:30 "How Will the 'Paid Sick Leave
Law' and the 'Credit Check Law' Affect Your Business!" Attorney

Effective January 1, 2012, Connecticut will become the first state in the
nation that requires employers that employ 50 or more people in the State to
provide paid sick leave to their service workers at a rate of one hour per 40
hours worked. This session will provide an introduction to the new law as well
as an overview of the following key points:
- Who the law applies to;How
the accrual works
- What the leave may be used
for
- The requirements of the
employer
- The consequences of
non-compliance
- Practical tips for
employers to ensure compliance with this new law.
Effective October 1,
2011, employers in Connecticut will face new restrictions on the use of credit
reports regarding employees or applicants. This combined session will also
provide an introduction to Public Act 11-223, An Act Preventing the Use of
Credit Scores by Certain Employers in Hiring Decisions. In particular, this
session will explain the following:
- Who the law applies to
- What the law forbids
- Exceptions under the law
- The consequences of
non-compliance
- Practical tips for
employers to ensure compliance with this new law.
10:30 to 11:00 Information on the status of the Activity Van
license controversy followed by Doug
moderating an open forum among
attendees on current concerns and ideas for future topics/speakers at CAIS
Business Managers meetings.
11:00 to 11:45 The new NEASC /
CAIS Accreditation standards - what
do business Managers need to know? This brief session, lead by Pat Willis,
Business Manager at Cheshire Academy and Chair of the CAIS Commission on
Accreditation will also provide the requisite training for business Managers
who are willing to serve on Visiting Teams (in the new protocol, the Business
Manager on Visiting Team often does not need to stay for the full visit)
