Helping a child achieve his or her full potential is one of the most
important contributions a teacher can make to a child’s life. Yet the
issue all educators face is how to get children there, especially
considering that there is little research-based
work on this subject. Educator and author Ellen Galinsky
will address this gap, covering the “seven essential life skills” that
she believes children need if they are to become well-rounded,
productive and thoughtful adults.
After decades of research, including
interviewing the best experts in neuroscience and child development,
Galinsky hopes to bridge the gap between educational practice and research by
offering teachers concrete strategies for inspiring students to fulfill
their potential. Workshop participants
will learn lessons and activities that help students master essential
life skills such as focus and self-control, critical thinking, taking on
challenges, effective communication and making connections.
Ellen is president and co-founder of
the Families and Work Institute and helped define the field of work and
family life at the Bank Street College of Education, where she taught
for more than 25 years. She is widely published, and her workshop will
be based on her latest book, Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Skills Every Child Needs.
Her workshop will be held at The Children’s School, 118 Scofieldtown
Road in Stamford, on Wednesday, April 11, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Learn more
