The work of CAIS is directed, and in large part carried out, by five Commissions and the Board of Directors. All are made up of volunteer professionals from member schools. Commission members are appointed by the Executive Director, based on suggestions made by Heads of CAIS Schools, active commission members, or those who wish to serve. All commission members serve three-year terms which, depending upon a particular commission's own practices, may or may not be renewable. Commission chairs are appointed by the commission with the approval of the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
